The brief
The Diriyah Biennale Foundation runs the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale and the Islamic Arts Biennale. It needed one home for both: the foundation, its exhibitions, its public programme and everything a visitor needs to plan a trip.
Underneath sits a ticketing journey of its own: entry tickets, programme tickets and group tours, each confirmed by email with a unique QR code that is scanned at the gate.
Built with
UX lead & PM I led UX and ran delivery for a foundation website and the ticketing behind two biennales.
What I did
- Ran discovery for two biennales under one foundation, with very different audiences.
- Designed ticketing as its own journey, so buying never competes with the storytelling.
- Planned QR check-in with the operations team, so the gates worked from day one.
- Managed the Laravel delivery, with hosting inside Saudi Arabia to meet the data law.
- Led acceptance testing, the launch, and support through a three-month event.
The impact
- 200K+registrations for the Contemporary Art Biennale
- 100K+QR check-ins at the gates
- 3months of live operation
- 3ticket types: entry, programme and group tours
The call I made
A ticketing journey of its own
Putting tickets inside the website would have made every buyer wade through exhibitions first. We built ticketing as its own journey, linked from every page, so buying takes a few steps and the website stays a place to explore.
What shipped
- A bilingual foundation website for both biennales and the public programme
- A separate ticketing journey for entry, programme tickets and group tours
- Email confirmations with unique QR codes
- A QR check-in system for the gates, across a three-month event
- A Laravel CMS so the team updates content themselves
- Hosting inside Saudi Arabia, in line with the kingdom's data law
