The brief
LODD builds hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft for autonomous cargo logistics. The website had to feel as advanced as the aircraft, and still explain middle-mile delivery to people who had never heard of it.
We chose full-page scrolling so each screen tells one part of the story, with a 3D model of the Hili aircraft that visitors can turn and explore.
Built with
UX lead & PM I led UX and ran the project, turning autonomous cargo aircraft into a story told one screen at a time.
What I did
- Ran competitor research and defined personas for investors, partners and future hires.
- Proposed full-page scrolling, so each screen tells one part of the story.
- Directed the interactive 3D model of the Hili aircraft with the developers.
- Set a performance budget, so a heavy, visual site still loads fast.
- Managed delivery from Figma to WordPress and through launch.
The impact
- 360°interactive view of the Hili aircraft
- 7pages, each told in full screens
- 1.8slargest contentful paint on desktop
- 3xaverage time on site against the old website
The call I made
One idea per screen
Autonomous cargo aircraft are hard to explain. Instead of long pages we gave every scroll one idea and one picture, so a visitor understands the mission, the aircraft and the use cases in under a minute.
What shipped
- Full-screen, scroll-by-scroll storytelling
- An interactive 3D model of the Hili aircraft
- Pages for the mission, the aircraft, drone delivery, careers and news
- Personas and a site architecture built from competitor research
- Fast loading on a custom WordPress theme with caching and a CDN
